Following on from the Prime Minister’s announcement on Saturday 14 March 2020 and the measures the government was introducing to combat and reduce the spread of COVID-19, Jacinda Adern advised the need for community support and for there to be “no handshakes, no hugs, no hongis” and for individuals and the community at large to employ social distancing and/or physical distancing.
One of the most effective ways we have of keeping individuals, families and our communities safe and healthy and stopping the spread of COVID-19 is to take simple common-sense steps to avoid close contact with other people as much as possible. Close contact is considered to occur in any situation where you have face-to-face contact closer than 2 metres for more than 15 minutes.
Partner dancing is the opposite in every way of social distancing and for all of us in the dancing community we have a role to play in keeping ourselves, our staff and crew, dancers and our family and friends and wider dance community safe, healthy and well.
Therefore Ceroc Dance New Zealand’s position on the above is to suspend all classes, dance parties and major events within the next two week period. It is our social responsibility and obligation to implement this sooner rather than later. This is in line with the Government’s guidance on mass gatherings and to limit the potential spread of the virus to ensure the health of New Zealanders. More guidelines from ministers will follow for smaller events.
We would appreciate your support in helping ensure the health and well being of our dance community, family and friends and more importantly the more vulnerable members of society who need our help in containing the virus for the sake of their health.
We will re-assess this situation at the end of this period in conjunction with any and all updates from the government and Ministry of Heath.
Thank you for your understanding and support.
